60 years of history celebrated in the presence of special guests such as the Italian Olympic champions Tamberi, Tortu, Rosolino and Italian Paralympic champions Liverani and Berra.
After a year of absence, Mipel is finally getting ready to reopen its doors to the public with the 120th edition, organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAECI), ITA – Italian Trade Agency and with the patronage of the Municipality of Milan, from 19 to 21 September at Fieramilano-Rho.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony in the spirit of #RestartTogether, together with the other events HOMI Fashion&Jewels Exhibition, Lineapelle, Micam Milano and THEONEMILANO Special featured by MICAM Milano, scheduled for Sunday 19 at 9.15 am in the presence of the Minister for Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti and the President of the ITA – Italian Trade Agency Carlo Maria Ferro.
An important edition, that of the sixtieth anniversary, renamed Mipel Play, to recall the world of sport, which has given great satisfaction to Italy in such a particular year, with a special set-up that will reproduce an athletics track on the perimeter of the event, tennis and basketball courts in the common areas. A way to celebrate a summer of sporting triumphs and give a modern and fascinating image of the Made in Italy movement, breaking down all stereotypes.
To underline the strong link between business, the desire to restart and get back in the game, overcome limits and healthy international competition, an entire day has been organised on Monday 20th September dedicated to the Italian Olympic champions who made the “Bel Paese” dream so much this summer. In fact, two of the Italian Olympic athletes who achieved a real feat during the last Tokyo Games, Gianmarco Tamberi, gold in the high jump, and Filippo Tortu, gold in the 4×100, are expected at Mipel from 11 am onwards. They will be interviewed by former Olympic champion Massimiliano Rosolino (who has won 60 medals in his career, including 17 golds), as a special Mipel correspondent.
In the afternoon, two more medal-winning athletes are expected: Italian Paralympic athletes Andrea Liverani, bronze medal in the 10-metre rifle shooting, and Alessia Berra, silver in the 100-metre butterfly S13, accompanied by Pierangelo Santelli, President of the Italian Paralympic Committee Lombardy Region, who will be the protagonists of a special interview in the Mipel Talk Area led by Massimiliano Rosolino.
“The swimming crawl of success” will be the title of the interview that will be conducted by journalist Andrea Guolo with the former Olympic champion who will tell his heart-to-heart as well as investigate the correlations between the world of sport and business.
“It is an enormous honour for us to have the opportunity to host champions of this level during our event who, with their commitment, dedication, hunger to emerge and desire to overcome any obstacle, have contributed this summer to instilling courage and hope in our Country, A feeling of optimism that had been missing for so long and that seemed to have been further dimmed by this pandemic” – says the President of Mipel Franco Gabbrielli – “I would like our companies to take an example from these brave young men and women, who have never given up and who have believed in it to the end, against all odds. Italy never gives up and in the darkest moments it brings out the best in everyone, this is the hope and the wish I have for the companies in our sector,” concluded Gabbrielli.
Mipel also presents its own calendar of events, once again acting as a protagonist of meetings and business opportunities between buyers and brands, but also as a promoter of moments of discussion on some of the main themes so dear to the fashion system today and, more specifically, to the supply chain: sustainability, digitalisation, generational change, aggregation.
With this in mind, on Sunday 19 September there will be a talk moderated by Giulio Finzi, Secretary General of the Netcomm Consortium, entitled “E-commerce: what you’ve never been told“, to which all operators at the event will have free access.
3 intense days of events and meetings that will end on Tuesday 21 September with a speech by Professor Antonio Catalani, lecturer at SDA Bocconi, moderated by Andrea Guolo, on the theme: “Districts and sustainability: MIPEL Lab, Assopellettieri’s solution”. The President of Assopellettieri Franco Gabbrielli and some of the founders of MIPEL Lab, the new exhibition format dedicated to Italian leather goods production sourcing, created by Assopellettieri in collaboration with Lineapelle, will also take part in the event, which will make its debut the following day during Lineapelle in Hall 13 of Fiera Milano Rho.
Mipel and ASSOPELLETTIERI are also continuing their commitment to the MISS MIPEL project, the initiative, supported by MAECI and the ITA- Italian Trade Agency, created with the idea of promoting the uniqueness and value of Italian leather goods in the world. A strategic project that will officially start during MIPEL when the first “call” to designers and fashion schools will be “launched”. They will be invited to take part in a real competition by submitting their own version of MISS MIPEL. Afterwards, the MISS MIPEL team will select the most valid projects and will entrust their creation to expert leather craftsmen, who will then sponsor and promote them in an innovative way in a special physical and virtual global tour.
